Discovered attack
Also called Discovered check, Discovery.
Moving one piece uncovers an attack by another piece behind it.
Knight to g5 checks the king on h7, and by moving it uncovers the rook on e1 against the queen on e8. The knight does not touch the queen; the rook does. Black must answer the check, and the rook takes the queen.
Two threats arrive with one move, and only one can be answered. When the uncovered piece gives check, it is a discovered check. When the moving piece checks as well, it is a double check.
