King's Gambit

Opening, intermediate, Open game (1.e4 e5)

White offers a pawn on move two for quick development and an attack on the f-file.

After 1.e4 e5 2.f4, White offers the f-pawn. If Black takes, White gets the centre and an open file towards Black’s king, at the cost of weakening their own.

A classic example of trading material for time.

1.e4 e5 2.f4
