Zero-sum game

Concept, beginner

A game where one player's gain is exactly the other's loss, like chess.

Chess and rock-paper-scissors are zero-sum. Much of life is not: trade and cooperation can leave both sides better off, which is why the Prisoner’s Dilemma is a better model for many real situations.

Play it out: the Rock-paper-scissors lab, about five minutes against bots.
