Grünfeld Defence

Opening, advanced, Indian game (1.d4 Nf6)

Also called Grunfeld, Gruenfeld.

Black invites White to take the centre with pawns, then attacks it with pieces.

After 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5, Black often lets White build a big centre with cxd5 and e4, then hits it with …c5 and the bishop on g7. Sharp and theory-heavy.
