King's Indian Defence

Opening, advanced, Indian game (1.d4 Nf6)

Also called KID, Kings Indian.

Black gives White the centre, castles quickly, then attacks it and the kingside.

Black lets White build a broad pawn centre, then strikes at it with …e5 or …c5. In the main lines the sides attack on opposite wings, White on the queenside and Black against White’s king.

A fighting choice for players who are happy to defend first and counter-attack later.
